Analytics

Enable Categories

To get the most out of Analytics, you need to have categories set up:

• If you haven't created categories yet, you'll see a message prompting you to set them up
• Click "Set Up Categories" to go to the Categories page
• Create categories and assign them to your transactions
• Return to Analytics to see your categorized data visualized

Use Filters

Apply filters to focus your analysis on specific data:

• Search: Find transactions by payee, memo, or amount
• Date Range: Select a specific time period to analyze
• Category Filter: View spending for specific categories
• Group Filter: Analyze spending by category groups

Explore Chart Views

The Analytics page offers multiple chart types:

• Stacked Bar Chart: Shows spending by category over time (monthly breakdown)
• Donut Chart: Displays the proportion of spending by category for the selected period
• Grouped Stacked Bar Chart: Shows spending by category group over time

Switch between "By Category" and "By Category Group" views using the toggle buttons.

Interact with Charts

Charts are interactive - click on any segment to:

• View transactions: See all transactions that make up that segment
• Apply filters: Automatically filter the view to show only those transactions
• Drill down: Get detailed information about specific spending categories

Use Comparative Analytics

The Comparative Analytics tab allows you to compare spending across different periods:

• Select two date ranges to compare
• View side-by-side comparisons of spending by category or group
• See percentage changes and absolute differences
• Identify trends and changes in your spending patterns

View Transaction Details

Click on any chart segment to see the underlying transactions:

• A modal will open showing all transactions in that category/period
• Review individual transactions to understand your spending
• Use this information to identify patterns or unusual spending

Exclude Categories from Analytics

Some categories (like transfers or savings) may not be relevant for spending analysis:

• When creating or editing categories, you can mark them as "Excluded from Analytics"
• These categories won't appear in analytics charts
• Use the toggle in the category controls to show or hide excluded categories
